SHAHEEN Pakistan aims to make foreign higher education more accessible to students from developing countries by creating an online portal that provides free, comprehensive, reliable admission tips and scholarships.
The Problem: Unfortunately, many bright students fail to get admission in quality programs, simply because their institutions or personal networks cannot guide them. This has led to an under-representation of under-resourced students in many higher-education and medical programs around the world, which is a long-term collective loss for the entire nation.
The Solution: We are a group of students and faculty affiliated with Harvard, MIT, Parsons, and other universities, who are collaborating with GEO Television Network to develop a free online portal that will make available country-specific and field-specific guidance on how to ensure a strong application.
Our Strategy: Our strategy for making available reliable, comprehensive, free admission guidance is simple: We first consolidate information from multiple reliable sources (university websites, faculty blogs, professional organizations, etc.) to develop targeted country-specific and field-specific application tips. Then, if possible, we have these tips reviewed by faculty, administrators, or applicants who have successfully applied to these fields. Finally, we make these tip-sheets freely available online for the benefit of future applicants.
The Impact: Our hope is that SHAHEEN’s online portal will help overcome the current inadequacies in guidance and counseling available to bright students in developing countries, particularly in Pakistan. We strongly believe that better-educated individuals will be an asset to themselves, their families, and the entire nation in the long run.
